Angang Steel has moved 316H austenitic stainless steel plate into industrial production for the main vessel and internals of China’s first 600 MW sodium-cooled fast reactor, a project recognised in a national patent commercialisation programme. The steelmaker reports 12 granted invention patents covering the rolling and heat treatment route and says it is the only producer running the grade on its own equipment. The plate has to hold strength under high temperature, neutron flux and liquid sodium exposure.
