The inner tank of a new 20,000 cubic metre LNG storage tank has been lowered into place at China Coal Ordos Energy and Chemical’s synthetic gas centre, a milestone for the tank package. The inner tank holds liquefied gas at about minus 162 degrees Celsius, so it demands tight control of plate properties, welding accuracy and leak-tightness. Contractor China Chemical Engineering Eleventh Construction reported a 99.3 percent first-pass weld acceptance rate, with bottom welding, piping, pressure testing and cold insulation next.
