Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical has started construction of a 1.2 million tonne per year ethylene unit as the core of a revamp worth more than 20 billion yuan at its Jinshan complex in Shanghai. The programme adds 15 new process units, modifies five and shuts 18 older ones, lifting ethylene capacity from 700,000 tonnes before the existing cracker is retired. The unit uses Sinopec’s proprietary low-energy ethylene separation technology and is due for completion in late October 2028.
