Northumbrian Water is preparing a GBP 27 million upgrade of Morpeth Sewage Treatment Works in Northumberland, with construction due to begin in late October 2026 and run for about two years. The scheme adds new treatment assets and rebuilds the final process stage to cut phosphorus entering the River Wansbeck while raising capacity for population growth in the catchment. Mott MacDonald Bentley will deliver the work under the utility’s Water Industry National Environment Programme.
