Abu Dhabi’s Water and Electricity Authority has invited expressions of interest from global and regional contractors for a greenfield reverse-osmosis seawater desalination plant at the Taweelah power and water complex, about 45 km north of the capital. With a planned capacity of 200 million gallons per day, the independent water project is expected to rank among the world’s largest once complete and cost between $600 million and $1.2 billion. Developers may own up to 40% of the project company under a long-term water purchase agreement; bid submissions close on February 7.
