The International Finance Corporation has disclosed an environmental and social review summary for the Baku Water Desalination Project in Azerbaijan, confirming it is considering a senior loan for a 300,000 cubic metre per day seawater reverse osmosis plant in Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park. Developed by an ACWA Power special-purpose vehicle on a former wastewater treatment site, the scheme includes 3,475 metres of offshore intake pipelines and a brine outfall into the Caspian Sea. The plant is designed to supply potable water to an estimated 1.5 million people.
