A wastewater resource utilisation project in Urumqi’s Ganquanbu Economic and Technological Development Zone is turning industrial effluent into high-quality reclaimed water and saleable industrial salt. The membrane-based train, combining ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis with pore sizes down to 0.1 nanometres, passes effluent through 42 refinement steps and converts over 90 percent of the wastewater into reclaimed water, with overall recovery reaching 98 percent. Concentrated brine is further processed by evaporation and crystallisation into industrial salt supplied to large local chemical producers as raw material.
