A large-scale desalination facility in the Caofeidian industrial zone of Tangshan, Hebei, has entered trial production using a circular model that converts desalination waste brine into a chemical feedstock. Developed with Tangshan Sanyou Group, the plant reportedly uses about 60% less electricity than conventional methods and splits every three tonnes of brine into two tonnes of fresh water and one tonne of concentrated brine, which is piped to a nearby soda-ash plant. The third phase is designed to handle nearly 100 million tonnes of concentrated seawater a year.
