Qingdao Water Desalination Co. now operates three large seawater desalination plants with combined capacity of about 300,000 cubic metres per day, roughly 10 percent of China’s total, and has supplied more than 364 million cubic metres to date, according to Qingdao Daily. Equipment localisation has advanced sharply: imported kit accounted for only 5 percent of content at the first-phase Baifa plant, while domestic supply reaches about 70 percent in phase two, with reverse osmosis membranes reported at over 99.7 percent salt rejection. The company has also delivered its first overseas desalination project, in Indonesia.
